The Story of The Music Box Academy of Piano

Many years ago, I sat in our church sanctuary listening to a Sunday service.  I would be remiss if I didn’t share what happened to me that day as it directly relates to why we are all here today.  There was a missionary from Africa sharing a story about the people in his village.  He referred to the story in the bible of 2 Kings: 4 – The Widow and Her Oil.

To paraphrase, the widow was desperate to pay the tax collector, as he was going to take her boys to be his slaves. She couldn’t pay her debt since her husband passed away.  The prophet, Elisha, told her to use her jar of oil because that is all she had of value to sell.  She began filling every jar she and her sons could find with oil in order to sell them to pay the tax man.  Her oil continued to flow until every jar was full.  She sold them all and paid the tax collector which saved her sons from slavery.  The missionary asked the people of his village what their oil was.  His focus was to help them find their proverbial oil by teaching them to farm and raise live stock. In other words, he was teaching them to be self sufficient.

I sat there feeling very lost in my own life.  Living here in the land of the plenty… Where was MY oil?  I left church that day with a heavy heart from a rough patch I had found myself in.  I felt desperate because I couldn’t see my oil.  I prayed frequently, searching for my oil.  Then one day, it finally came to me.  THE PIANO IS MY OIL!  This gift I’ve been given of loving this instrument my entire life is MY oil!  It became very apparent how many other professional skills, along with continued education, had all come together to prepare me for this moment. So, I stepped out on faith and one by one, often more, my oil has flowed more than enough to fill my need.  I am so thankful for the blessings I have been given through each of our MBA families and feel very grateful to be on this musical journey with each of them.  My hope is that this story will inspire you to find your oil if you haven’t already.
